They told me this is an inkwell in the style of Jacob Petit, i found blue left overs at the bottom, maybe blue J P mark but it seems made in the style of Jacob petit who has indeed made inkwell with monkey , these were being auctioned at the big auction houses
So it is a pretty rare and unusual piece, search on Jacob petit monkey and you see the similarities
